May 15-19, 2017

Learning Night!  Daphne was actually

Nadia, Aiko and Owen at Authentic Learning Night! These
six students practiced during their lunch time to prepare. They
shared with many people, answered many questions and always
with a  positive attitude! They represented our crews well!
Thank you to the parents for supporting them, Cleo and
Nancy for attending that night, Johnson Control volunteers
who continued to be present throughout our entire case
study and to Mrs. Russick for her support, along with Mr.
Knight for organizing the event! 




















Our crew singing "Step by Step at HarborChase after a wonderful recital
by some of our crew. There is so much talent! Thank you to Mr. Christiansen,
Mrs. DeWeerdt, and Mrs. Rosenberg for chaperoning. Thank you to Ms. John-
son who stepped in to tune the instruments and to the parents that came to watch.
We look forward to next year and our continued connection with HarborChase.

First, they worked individually, then in a group, and last
they discussed strategies before completing a puzzle in a
group. We debriefed afterward. See pics.

don't respond. We discussed what this feels
like and what how we can be better at this.

Tristan and Liam edit each other's writing after they word
processed it. Crew members are word processing their inventor

Eliza and Nancy read Eats, Shoots and Leaves: Why Commas
Really Do Make A Difference 
by Lynne Truss. This was an
introduction to using parentheses in math. See pics. 


Levi and Ryan play Name That Number to try to reach a
target number using addition, subtraction, multiplication and
division. See pics. 



Petra, Tristan, Finn, Auguste, Ms. Johnson and Mr. Cherek
enjoying lunch by the lake outside of Discovery World.  It was
a wonderful and beautiful day for a field trip. Thank you to

Other Activities this week:



Publishing Center-thank you to Mrs. Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Levick, Mrs. McLellan and Mrs. Vanderloop for coming in for training last week with Mrs. Brown to help publish our crew's stories, brainstormed for achievements for design principle: The Primacy of Self-Discovery and wrote about their own for the scrapbook, practicing song for HarborChase, step ups and shout outs



Notes for Parents


1.   Reading Log : Reading Logs are due totaled on Monday.   Please ask your child to total his/her minutes before s/he brings it to school. 


2.  XtraMath : XtraMath 3 times, packet or another way to practice if your child participated in 
 Free Week) 



3. Janet Ruth Heller book order due 5/25.: Book order was in Thursday bags two weeks ago. She will also teach our crews in a writing workshop during her visit. 


4. Thursday, June 8th: Atwater Beach (1:00-3:00 pm:) We are walking to Atwater Beach for the last day field trip. I hope that it's warmer!  Please let me know if you'd like to walk over with us or meet us there.  Thank you!


5.  Sendik's bags: If you have any large Sendik's bags that you're not using, we'll take them. We use them to hold art smocks for the year.



6: Crew Garden plot: We will be planting our crew garden plot when it stays warmer at night-looking forward to it! Are there any families that would like to share the watering and weeding of the garden plot through the summer? In the past, three families have shared and you can pick whatever is available. Last summer, the lettuce grew very well!  Thank you to Mrs. McLellan and Mrs. Griffin for offering to take care of the garden. Thank you also to the Caton Family!
