May 22-25, 2017

Liam and the Elementary Band, under the
direction of Mr. Hughes,  performed a

After watching a short video called "Lessons
form an ant," Angela and Nadia discussed how
they can learn from ants to apply to their own
lives. The Natural World is one of our EL
Design Principles. See pics. 


Owen, Liam,  Jacoby, Tristan and Levi play Rock, Paper,
Scissors, and not the regular one. Once someone loses,
s/he goes on to cheer on the opponent until there is only
one winner. It's quite a fun and loud initiative! See pics. 

As part of our EL Design Principle, The Natural
World, we went on a nature scavenger hunt with
our K-4 buddies. Levi and Geoffrey are here with

Finn and Auguste found a way to make our
Himalayan bowl resonate better for

Publishing Center-thank you  also to Nada Johnson who also trained and helped out in the Publishing Center, students visited the Publishing Center, read different Scholastic News with headlines that related to children accomplishing something significant, studied the text features and created ideas for their end of the year story, Ms. Sakai had a guest teacher on Tuesday for individual reading assessments and Thursday morning for Crew Committee, ELL students went on a trip to Audubon Nature Center, worked on time capsule and achievement sheets for scrapbook, watched a short movie about the Great Lakes

1.   Reading Log : Reading Logs are due totaled on Monday.   Please ask your child to total his/her minutes before s/he brings it to school. This is the last reading log!


2.  XtraMath : XtraMath 3 times, packet or another way to practice if your child participated in 
 Free Week) This is the last week of XtraMath unless your child didn't complete it last week.


3. Hidden Figures movie permission is due on Thursday, June 1st. 



4. Thursday, June 8th: Atwater Beach (1:00-3:25 pm:) We are walking to Atwater Beach for the last day field trip.  Please let me know if you'd like to walk over with us or meet us there.  Thank you!


5.  Sendik's bags: If you have any large Sendik's bags that you're not using, we'll take them. We use them to hold art smocks for the year.

May 15-19, 2017


Liam, Daphne and Henry at Authentic
Learning Night!  Daphne was actually
at both sessions! See pics


Nadia, Aiko and Owen at Authentic Learning Night! These
six students practiced during their lunch time to prepare. They
shared with many people, answered many questions and always
with a  positive attitude! They represented our crews well!
Thank you to the parents for supporting them, Cleo and
Nancy for attending that night, Johnson Control volunteers
who continued to be present throughout our entire case
study and to Mrs. Russick for her support, along with Mr.
Knight for organizing the event! 




















Our crew singing "Step by Step at HarborChase after a wonderful recital
by some of our crew. There is so much talent! Thank you to Mr. Christiansen,
Mrs. DeWeerdt, and Mrs. Rosenberg for chaperoning. Thank you to Ms. John-
son who stepped in to tune the instruments and to the parents that came to watch.
We look forward to next year and our continued connection with HarborChase.

Petra, Tristan, Finn, Auguste, Ms. Johnson and Mr. Cherek

Publishing Center-thank you to Mrs. Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Levick, Mrs. McLellan and Mrs. Vanderloop for coming in for training last week with Mrs. Brown to help publish our crew's stories, brainstormed for achievements for design principle: The Primacy of Self-Discovery and wrote about their own for the scrapbook, practicing song for HarborChase, step ups and shout outs

Last summer, the lettuce grew very well!  Thank you to Mrs. McLellan and Mrs. Griffin for offering to take care of the garden. Thank you also to the Caton Family!

A Shout Out to the crew for earning the Golden Spoon award!
They earned it by being sociable in a respectful way.

J.P.  moves through a hula hoop during crew while both of

are "The Natural World" and "The Primacy of Self-Discovery"
so we've watched a short video about Canada Geese and discussed how we can learn from them. We've also discussed what we've dis-covered about ourselves and what we can do that we didn't
realize we could do. 




Kaiden and Cleo shared a story that they wrote together. 


Cleo, Daphne, Mary Jane , Daphne and Geoffrey work on
their Mother's Day/special person cards. The crew brainstormed
for words for a Mother's Day poem, then wrote one and added
fingerprint pictures. (The paint didn't work very well, so some
tried stamp pads.) A "Success and Failure" lesson for me!

Henry, Jacoby and Rowan play "Beat the Calculator" to

5. Discovery World field trip: Monday, May 15th-Please bring a disposable bag lunch and drink.  Chaperones: Anna DeWeerdt, Nada Johnson, Kyle Cherek,  Jon Talley, Claire Jiang and Ben Christiansen.  Thank you!



6.  Sendik's bags: If you have any large Sendik's bags that you're not using, we'll take them. We use them to hold art smocks for the year.
