Blog #15

December 7-11, 2015

Welcome, Teddy, to our Crew!  We are  so happy to have
you here!
Matthew and Jesse help Finn celebrate his birthday!

Lauryn volunteered to read with Teddy even before
he arrived!

Please click on any bolded or brown captions for more pics!

Maya, Mary Jane and Bennett discuss
grateful actions during Crew.

Zhi, Finn and Lauryn discuss what
they see on the paper. Please ask
your child about this.

Nadia, Noah, Piper and Liam
brainstorm for ideas to
create a Gratitude precept.
Liam and Nadia use square foot tiles
to see how many fit on a square yard.

Jesse and Eleanor use IXL to practice
various sentence structures and
parts of speech, along with Edutyping.
In Writing Workshop, students have worked on writing Publishing Center stories and brainstorming for phrases to write on a get well card.

Aiko, Eleanor and Nadia look
 at a dried sea lamprey!
In Math in Mrs. Malloy's class, students reviewed and assessed the unit. Ms. Sakai's class continued to work on perimeter and area, along with data analysis.  They also played various fact Top-it games.

Mr. Hamann, Mrs. Cryns, Mrs.
Malloy, and I enjoyed lunch with
Mr. Newman after his presentations.
In Science, Mark Newman, author of the Sooper Yooper books visited our 3/4 and 4th grade crews!  He is an engaging, entertaining and educational speaker!  We all learned so much and his visit is sponsored by the Wege Foundation.  He showed a slide show, a short video clip, huge colorful posters, examples of specimens and he also autographed books.
Cole, Bennett and Parth make a
Get Well card for Anna Pendleton
in Mrs. Cryn's room.

We took out the rest of our plantings
in our garden plot.  The Vets have
seen the entire cycle of the growing
process and we all enjoyed healthy
treats earlier in the Fall. Julia and
Bennett also helped Mr. Rinka with
Mrs. Malloy's garden plot.  We also
shared our garden plot memories.
While Mrs. Cryn's and Mr. Hamann's crews were listening to Mr. Newman in our room, Mrs. Cryns offered our Crew a place to hang out. Our crew created "Get Well" cards for Mrs. Pendleton's daughter, Anna.

Noah and Matthew help their K-4
buddy play Connect 4 during
a Game Day!  Our Crew quote that
day was about helping.

Special Notes and Friendly Reminders for Parents

Thank you for your understanding about the lateness of this blog!  With being sick and progress reports, I had to make a choice. I'm feeling so much better!

1.  Thursday bags are due by Monday (or the first day of the week.)

2.  Please turn in the Reading Log (totaled) by Monday, Dec. 21st.  If your child misplaces his/her reading log, s/he can write the information on a piece of paper.

3.  Important Math Fact information:  Students should either complete a fact packet or Xtramath 3 times this week (due Monday.)

4.  Junior Art Docents (Rookies):The Rookies had a wonderful trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum!  We discussed what it means to become a Junior Art Docent.  There was a note about it and a permission slip if your child would like to continue (due 12/18.)   If your child isn't interested, you do not need to turn in the permission slip.

5.  Winter wear:  Please make sure to label hats, gloves, boots and especially snow pants with your child's name on them.  This will help us return to your child if they're misplaced. Please also send an extra pair of shoes for your child to change into at school, as boots stay in our coatroom, or s/he can wear his/her phy. ed. shoes.
