October 2-6 and October 9-11. 2017

We are crew, not passengers.

Nancy and Petra help Angela celebrate her
birthday. See pic.

Mr. Anton joined our crew one day to tell
about himself and answer questions.  (I
have known him since I started teaching at
Atwater!)

Shout out to Nancy for passing a Xtramath
level!

Sam passed a XtraMath level!

Yeah to Finn for passing a Xtramath level!

Way to go, Cassidy, for passing a Xtramath
level!

Shout out to August for passing a Xtramath level!

Way to go, Nancy, for passing a Xtra-
math level!

Yeah for Sam for passing a Xtramath
level!

Nancy shared a story that she wrote in ELL.

Henry and Cleo lead us in a greeting during
Crew time.

Henry leads us in Bippity Boppity Boo for a
crew initiative to share creative ideas.
Our crew is also using the same squiggle
to create a different picture for
our design prinicple: The Having of
Wonderful Ideas. See pics.

Some of the crew stands between the "always" and "sometimes"
on a continuum to repesent how they feel about different things.
Then, they reflected and marked on a continuum how they felt
they are doing on their learinng targets, design prinicples and
PERKS. After, they wrote first trimester goals. See pics.

Masha reads to Cleo and Angela during Library
Book exchange.

Victor and Lillian measure the mass of different objects
using a balance scale. See pics.

Xyella holds the chimes to see if it has a similar
mass to a 1 liter bottle of water. (1,000 grams.)
She and Bruce were also finding objects
that had a mass of about 1 large paperclip or
1 gram. See pics.

Cat, Andrew and Cassidy were showing how long 10 meters
is which is the length of a python. Both math classes reviewd
and assessed Unit 1. We also took our Math MAP assess-
ment. See pics.

Kane and Finn are meauring the mass of different objects
using a balance scale. They also chose each other as
clock partners. See pics.

Isla and Zoah duirng a math brain break.
See pics.

The Northshore Fire Dept. and an officer
from the Shorewood Police Dept. spoke to
the crew during safety week. We also practiced
a tornado drill and soft lock down drill. See pics.

Owen and Cleo look at a graph to figure out what it reprsents.
It was a graph about the number of vertebrate and invertebrates pecies. They also looked at a graph to figure out the number of species in mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. Last, they looked at an organizer comparing vertebrates and invertebrates. See pics.

Owen leads us in Mindfulness. See pics .

Charlotte leads us in an energizer that crosses
the midbrain. See pic.

Owen and J.P. on the way to Atwater Beach for our case study
kick-off. Miss. Torie and Miss Alex from the Urban Ecology
Center, led our activities. Students discussed the beach clean
up procedure. See pics.

Petra releases a monarch butterfly that was tagged with a
sticker. If the butterfly is caught when it reaches its southern
destination, it will be traced to our crew. See pics.

Each team marked a grid in the sand. Here Jacoby,
Isla, Owen and Angela are collectintg data.
Students took turns collecting garbage, tallying
the kind of garbage on a data sheet and holding the
garbage bag. They also learned how to comb the
beach for more garbage in their area. There are
many pics here.

Henry, August and Xyella compile their data
after the garbage was collected. See pics.

Our crew taking a decomposition museum
walk. Thank you so much to all of our
chaperones: Mrs. Caton, Mr. Coleman, Ms. Forray,
Mrs. Griffin and Mrs. Marks. We learned so much!
See pics.

Masha, Eliza, Isla and Angela look at their object cards to figure
out how long their object would take to decompose. Then they
stood at that spot on a rope. See pics.

Nancy and other ELL students spent a fun
morning at an apple and pumpkin farm. See pics.
