February 27-March 2, 2017

Our Feudal System simulation from the Medieval Times. Crew members randomly chose their position from pieces of paper.  There was one king, two nobles or Lords  (2 manors), five knights/vassals and the rest of the crew were peasants. We used Skittles to simulate how the Feudal System worked.

Three Knights/Vassals from one manor (J.P., Liam and Jacoby)
paid their Noble/Lord (Auguste) with Skittles.  Their take-aways
will be part of their opinion writing. See pics.

As part of Black History month, we enjoyed Sista Strings, a fabulous sister
duo, play and sing.

Geoffrey earned a XtraMath certificate.
Way to go!

Mary Jane earned a Xtramath certificate!
Great job!

Angela and Tristan helped Owen celebrate his birthday! See pic.

We discussed a quote by Dr. Seuss to start off the EL
Design Principle Solitude and reflection. "You can get
help from teachers, but you are going to have to learn
a lot by yourself, sitting alone in a room."

During Crew, we put "Truffula Seeds" on the outside of a
plate and added water while learning about what Skittles
are made from and the concept of density. See pics.

Geoffrey and Owen read to one of the residents, a grandma
to children in the Shorewood Schools. See pics.

Daphne and Mary Jane play Heart Bingo with George. The
residents won candy kisses for Bingo. Thank you to Shawn
Brown, Susan Forray and Nada Johnson for chaperoning
our trip. See pics.

Petra shares something she enjoyed about our trip to
HarborChase during the debrief. She (and the crew)
also enjoyed a candy kiss. See pics.

Cleo and Forrest share specific similarities and differences
of different quadrangles. See pics.

Henry and Gauri show how to measure area using
composite units. See pics.

Gauri and Angela play the Area and Perimeter game.
See pics.

Mary Jane, Nancy and Kaiden test different
nozzles (changing only one variable) during
the AWIM case study. See pics.

Henry and Finn test their JetToy vehicle for distance and
speed during the AWIM case study. See pics.

Ms. McQueen, a volunteer from Johnson Controls, checks
out the JetToy vehicles and offers suggestions. Here
she is helping Aiko, Eliza and Petra.
