February 14-17, 2017


A shout out to the crew for earning the Golden Spoon last week
 for being kind to one another at lunch time. 




A shout out to  Daphne and Henry for having their art work
displayed at the Shorewood District Art Show from Feb. 22-
April 5th. The opening reception is at the Shorewood Public
Library on Feb. 22nd from 6-8 pm. 

A shout out to the BOB team, The Three Reading Emojis,
comprised of Adelais, Andrina and Mary Jane. Their
first competition went great! Thank you to Mrs. Brown
and Mr. Nodolsky for leading the competitions. 

Way to go Geoffrey, for earning an
XtraMath certificate.

Ashley and Lochlan talked with our crew
about helping the homeless at Joy House
and Milwaukee Rescue Mission. Our traits
this month are caring and empathy. If you
have any children's pj's or pants or men's
gloves, they are collecting until Feb. 22nd.

Our Vets talked about time management and how they
worked on their science fair poster to Mr. W's crew and
our Rookies. They also answered questions about the
posters.

could answer adults when they are disappointed

their JetToy on a ramp to see if it goes
smooth and straight for at least three meters.

Masha, Nancy, Mary Jane and Kaiden reflect on their JetToy's
results and write information in their packet. They will

inventions with a focus on diverse people and women.

Petra, Cleo and Eliza use mass weights to find items that weigh
a certain mass. The math crew also measured items using
a ruler, yardstick and tape measure. See pics.

Nadia, Jacoby, Nancy and Liam practice reading Dr. Seuss

Other events this week:


band and orchestra students continue to have lunch rehearsal and leave a little early for lunch,  band rehearsal in the pm and Band-O-Rama, Rookies Junior Art Docents




Notes for Parents


1.   Reading Log : Reading Logs are due totaled on Monday.   Please ask your child to total his/her minutes before s/he brings it to school.

2.  XtraMath :  practice 3 times a week



3.  Conference Sign-Up:  Here is the Spring Conference Schedule for Thursday, March 9th and Friday, March 10th.  Here is the Atwater Link address for conferences.



The students do not have school on either day (the district calendar says differently.)


No School and Conference Dates: There is no school for students on Thursday, March 9th and Friday, March 10th.  The district calendar says differently. Your child is leading the conference so please plan to have your child join us. 


5. Box Tops: If you have any Box Tops, please send them in. We are collecting them! Thank you!


6Advanced Learning Dept. info:

 Word Masters (if your child chose to participate)

The new lists are in manila envelopes. I thought it would be easier to keep them in those. Your child should also add the "word posters" from the previous challenge to the envelope as those words are used again. There is a new word study sheet this time and extras are available in the classroom. Your child will have some time to work on it in class and the rest should be completed at home. Envelopes should be kept in your child's binder. They also received a crossword puzzle. 



The competition is Tuesday, Feb. 21.

7.  Science Fair: new date is Thursday, March 23rd from 6:30-7:30 pm.  **** 6:30-7:30 pm is a new time.****


 Vets:  will not complete science fair projects. Our entire crew will participate in the "A World of Motion" case study (like last year but more in depth and will include more reading and writing.)  


Rookies:  will participate in the case study and will also complete science posters.

Rookies:Posters are due on 3/13

The science fair posters will be on display during the science fair.

8.  Spirit Day: Friday, Feb. 24th: Flashback Friday Spirit Day: 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's


9.  Joy House and Milwaukee Rescue Mission: Mrs. Malloy's crew is collecting gently used kid's pants, kid's pj's and men's gloves. They are accepting contributions until Feb. 22nd. Thank you!


10.  Battle of the Books (BOB) Battles: 2/23, 3/2 and 3/6

12. Dinosaurs and Boxes:   Monday, March 6th-Please save boxes that could be used for dinosaurs to make with our K-4 buddies. The box should be able to fit inside a large grocery bag. Thank you!
