Our Battle of the Books (BOB) participants!  Bennett
is a member on "The Fearless Guinea Pigs" and Rose,
along with Maya, are on "The Loco Lizards!" They have
competed in one competition so far!

Zhi and his brother, in Steamboat, CO!  Zhi shared about
his vacation!

Do you recognize the person on the right? It's our own
Mr. Isaacs!  We watched a car commercial that he was in.

Students took a brisk walk to Lake Bluff this week to see
author, Gordan Korman!  He has published many books
including the Swindle series , 39 Clues  series
and the newest series Masterminds.
 It was a wonderful experience!

Julia shares her precept that she
created on responsibility during Crew.

Piper, Finn, Rose and Julia discuss a
stanza from a rockin' Responsibility
song that Mrs. Shanks shared with us.
We are continuing to focus on the different aspects of responsibility in Crew, including "what responsibility looks like" norms.  Each Crew member is choosing a quote or creating a precept to share in Feb. or March.

Rose shares her Publishing Center
story with our Crew!

Nadia, Mary Jane, Aiko and Eleanor
read a realistic fiction book together
while completing a note catcher.
In Reading Workshop, students chose their top five picture realistic fiction books (from an assortment), then read one of their top two, to practice inferring skills to record on a note catcher.  Students also read other realistic fiction books with various themes.

Ashley, Paul, Tristan, Kaiden,
Claudia and Nadia create large
place value numbers.

In Math with Mrs. Malloy, students are working on extended addition and multiplication. Ms.
Sakai's crew is reviewing large number place value and beginning decimals.

In Social Studies, with Mrs. Malloy, students are reading nonfiction text about mammoths and writing opinion paragraphs about mammoth cloning.

In Science. students are continuing to participate in "A World of Motion."

Mr. Caldwell, a mechanical engineer,
from Johnson Controls, visited our
crews.  He discussed his job, educa-
tion,  and answered many questions.
He also talked about the importance
of team work and what he does when
he's tackling a challenge.
Tyndall and Nadia revise their vehicle
to make sure it runs straight and
smooth with weights.

Zhi, Cole, Teddy and Tristan prepare their
vehicle to adapt to specific design
requirements, including traveling a certain
distance with three different size tubes
and two weights.  Students also chose
different engineering roles each day.
(i.e. Project Engineer makessure that s/he
knows what the task is and that it is completed.)

Noah, Bennett and Liam reflect ontheir data.
They also learned about the scientific
process, listened to songs and created
 a controlled experiment hypothesis
with one variable.

Parth and Kaiden during a Mindfulness
lesson.  Miss Janet reviewed

providing party treats!  Our Crew
