January 29-February 2 and February 5-8, 2018




Mr. Stanco explains what makes a good flag
at our All School Crew.


Kiku (Aiko's sister!) and Parker greet each
other with the rock greeting at our second
meeting. The cross-age crews are working
on creating a flag that represents their crew.






Jacoby and Victor take a Gallery Walk to see
what teams wrote on their iceberg for Success
and Failure. About 7/8 of an iceberg is under
water. Success is the 1/8 at the top and the 7/8
below (the iceberg) are the ideas and hard work.
The students wrote ideas such as perservance,
growth mind set, practice, hard work. failure,
and more. 






Owen M. leads us in Mindfulness with our
Mindfulness Reset teacher, Mr. Ansderson.

For Success and Failure, Charlote, Cleo and J.P.
pick up mini marshmallows with chop sticks.

Levi, Leo and Sam use chopsticks to practice
picking up marshmallows for Success and
Failure. Studens also tried to make snow
people with mini marshmallows.  























Ms. Penny,  from EL joined us for Crew.
Ms. India shared about a time that she met
Shirley Chisholm. "Shirley Anita Chisholm
was an American politician, educator, and author.
In 1968, she became the first black woman elected to the
United States Congress, and she represented
New York's 12th Congressional District for
seven terms from 1969 to 1983."Wikipedia

A shout out to Auguste for passing an Xtramath
level!



February begins our Design Principle: Collabor-
ation and Competition. We collaborate with each
other and compete with ourselves to grow.
Henry T. earned an Xtramath certificate. Way
to go!

Henry C. brought in delicious chocolate chip
cookies for his birthday. Hope the crew
enjoyed his birthday party today (all were
invited!)

Xyella, Lillian, Alice and Bruce play a Perimeter
and Area game in math. See pics. 



Alice, Maria, Hazel and Cassidy fill one square yard
with square feet. See pics. 




Finn figures out the perimeter of a 5X8 foot
rectangle. We also figured out the area. See pics. 



Eliza illustrats the earthworm, an invasive
species, using a checklist and rubric. See pics. 

Zoah and Angela give each other peer feedback
writing"I notice" and "I wonder" statements
about the illustrated invasive species.
They use specific and kind feedback to help them
grow on their next illustration. See pics.

















Other Activites:

band and orchestra lunch rehearsals and lessons, finished reading WI Historical books with Mrs. Malloy and starting a collaborative project about the books, peer book recommendations, collaborate poetry writing, daily oral language sentence revising and editing, many Advanced Learning Dept. activities
