Winter Sing!  The crew worked so hard and presented a spectacular Winter Sing performance! Thank you to Mrs. Griffin and Mrs. Travanty for helping with the crew that night. Thank you also to Mrs. Brown for your help with Winter Sing and to all of the families that supported your children!  The students also had a practice and dress rehearsal, plus watched the 4-6th grade dress rehearsal-busy week! See pics.

A shout out to our crew for earning the Golden Spoon last week for keeping the floors clean and sitting appropriately for dismissal!

Levi, Henry and Jacoby took notes in crew and shared
their ideas about "Service and Compassion" at PrinciPals
with Mrs. Russick. They also reported to our crew after the meeting.

Notes for Parents

Last Monday, I met with Meg Malloy, Kris Cryns and Mike Hamann to work on our "A World In Motion" (AWIM) case study.  We also met last Wednesday after the early release day. Meg and Kris will teach the crews about reading nonfiction text, taking notes, learning about people who contributed to the field of "form vs. function" and inventions. Mike and I will teach the crews the AWIM unit (same as last year) but with more learning targets, rubrics, data collecting, etc. Besides the connection to Johnson Controls employees, we are also working on bringing in other professionals. We have started data collecting, will work on team building and then begin the language arts and AWIM kits the week of February 6th.  Our AWIM competition is on Friday, March 24th.  We were grateful for the longer blocks of time to work with our teams, plus we are all working on our case study at other times, too! We are excited to make the AWIM case study the best it can be for our crews!

1.   Reading Log : Reading Logs are due totaled on Monday.   Please ask your child to total his/her minutes before s/he brings it to school.

2.  XtraMath :  practice three times a week

3.  Labeling Snow gear: PLEASE LABEL ALL SNOW GEAR with last name or initials :)  We have been spending time every day finding the owner of snow gear and we want to return it to the rightful owner.  Thank you so much!

No School and Conference Dates: There is no school for students on Thursday, March 9th and Friday, March 10th.  The district calendar says differently. Your child is leading the conference so please plan to have your child join us.

5. Box Tops: If you have any Box Tops, please send them in. We are collecting them! Thank you!

6Advanced Learning Dept. info:

Word Masters (if your child chose to participate)

The new lists are in manila envelopes. I thought it would be easier to keep them in those. Your child should also add the "word posters" from the previous challenge to the envelope as those words are used again. There is a new word study sheet this time and extras are available in the classroom. Your child will have some time to work on it in class and the rest should be completed at home. Envelopes should be kept in your child's binder. They also received a crossword puzzle.

The next competition in in Feb.    Online practice: www.quizlet.com. Most students tried this at school so they know how to log in.

7.  Science Fair: new date is Thursday, March 23rd from 7:00-8:0 pm. Vets:  will not complete science fair projects. Our entire crew will participate in "A World of Motion" case study (like last year but more in depth and will include more reading and writing.)  Rookies:  will participate in the case study and will also complete science posters. Information was in Thursday bags.

Rookies: Questions are due on Thursday, Feb. 2nd.

The science fair posters will be on display during the science fair.

8.  Recipe for salt dough from Mrs. Malloy: 2 c. flour, 1 c. salt and 1 c. water. Add more of the ingredients until you like it!
