May 9-13, 2016

Our Crew, including Mrs. Russick and Mr. Isaacs for Parth's last day!

Matthew helps Parth hold up a gift from us-a 100th Anniversary t-shirt!
The Crew also presented him with the 2015-2016 yearbook (the first student
to receive one!)  Thank you to Mrs. Kenney, for giving one to Parth as a keep-
sake and for giving it to us early so we could all write messages in it.  Parth
also received Auggie and Me: The Three Wonder Stories by R.J. Palacio.
Today was the day that I saw the most remarkable culmination of EL and Crew
come together.  After Parth answered questions, crew members could say
something to Parth.  The crew's comments were reflective, kind, thoughtful,
honest and heartfelt.  There were compliments for him, laughs and even tears.
Remarkable children! It was an amazing time for our crew and I am so grateful to have been a
part of it. Thank you to Mrs. Russick and Parth's mom, Ms. Desai, for joining us.
At the end of the day, the students started to sing "The Good-bye Song" to Parth.
He will be missed! See pics.

Congratulations to Shawn Brown for receiving a Spirit of Shorewood
award!  She won the award for volunteering her time to Atwater School's
students by dedicating and running the Jackson Knoernschild Publishing Center.
Mr. Bryan Davis presented the award to her.   Many students have become
published authors through her dedication and care! Thank you!
Happy Birthday, Mary Jane!  Thank
you to Mr. Isaacs for the pic!

Happy Birthday to Parth!  The crew
enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies!

Noah and Liam help Bennett celebrate his birthday! Thank you

An EL protocol: Fishbowl to demon-
strate Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Tristan and Nadia play Rock, Paper,
Scissors with supporters cheering
them on.  Ask your children about
this! See pics.

After brainstorming in groups, the crew
used an EL Protocol: GoGoMo to get
ideas from other people about perse-
verance. Crew members wrote an indiv-
idual perseverance goal on a note card.

Rose and Maya take notes about what
perseverance looks like for the Princi-
pal meeting next week.

Zhi, Bennett and Tristan at Library
Book exchange. See pics. Students
also worked on shape poems and
poetry inferences.

Eleanor, Piper and Mary Jane research-
ing vegetables to plan for our garden
plot. See pics. Students are continu-
ing to work on their invasive species
posters.
In Social Studies, students created WI region maps along with researching vegetation, minerals, topography, etc. of each region. The maps are hanging outside of our room.

Bennett found this great website that
tells when to plant certain vegetables
in Milwaukee, WI.
Olivia and Finn are using fraction cards
to find equivalent fractions.  Both crews
are learning about fractions.  See pics.

Brain Breaks! See pics.

At indoor recess, Kaiden shows
