September 18-22, 2017

Zoah, Charlotte and Isla represented our crew at the PrinciPal meeting with Mrs. Russick.Design Principle: The primacy of self-discovery."I am here to discover what I can do."

A "shout out" to Jacoby for completing an XtraMath level over the summer!

Ms. Starck's crew shared a reading during the All School  crew. See pics.

Owen and Auguste do an EL protocol called
Back to back, face to face. The stand up
pair up protocol is also in the pictures. See pics.

Owen shared a "9" puzzle for the crew to solve using the document camera.

Eliza and Zoah work collaboratively on a
tall tower initiative. Students grappled to create
towers that could hold two cups and five
pennies using a specific set of materials.
Learning Target: I can work collaboratively
to create a tall tower and I can explain
what my role is while building the tower.
They worked with their Rookie/Vet buddy(ies.)
See pics.

Geoffrey, Xyella and Masha share their
tall tower with the crew. They received
an "I like" and "I wonder" comment (the same
as our peer critique protocol.) See pics.

Ms. Sakai's math crew forms equal groups for
multiplication. See pics.

Charlotte, Isla and Kane work together to solve equal group
problems. "I can calculate accurately."
"I can represent real world situations with graphs and
drawings." See pics.

We also started to brain storm writing ideas for personal narratives. Band and Orchestra began this week. Ms. Sakai has been reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

the same animal and then they talked about
animal groups as an introduction to animal
classification. See pics.

Finn and Henry used the High Quality Work
criteria sheet to give each other feedback for
their peer critiques. The crew also added
one more role that they want to do this year
and then wrote final copies of their notecard
which will be displayed with their self-
portrait. See pics.

J.P., Owen and Geoffrey took the feedback
from their partner's peer critique and are working
on their final self-portraits. Design Principle:
solitude and reflection. They are sitting at a lowered
table on the floor, one of our new seating
areas. We also have more standing work
areas and four standing desks around the room
(three which face out the window.) See pics.

mystery object. Crew members also answered
questions from our crew. See pics.

again. They will go through the process one
more time before their final self-portrait
producing high quality work. This is the high
quality work protocol. The crew also wrote
notecards which included what crew means
to them and what role they play in crew for

Discovery. See pics.

Nancy, Henry, Petra and Sam work on coloring
