May 14-19 and May 21-25, 2018



Jacoby, Henry C. and Leo represented our crew
well at the Service and Compassion PrinciPal
meeting with Mrs. Russick. 


Some of my Cross-age Crew members picking up trash around
Shorewood. This was our last meeting-what a wonderful time!


Thank you to Mrs. Hirano, our Mystery Reader,
who read Judy Moody by Megan MacDonald.








Julia, Louis, Hazel, Ryan and Bruce share
a service initiative they started in the cafe. They
are collecting plastic wrappers and Mrs. Malloy
will recycle them at her grocery store.


Thank you, Mr. Stingl, for being an amazing
aide and crew member!





































On aide appreciation day, we also thanked
Mr. Coleman for being a wonderful aide and
crew member.

Mr. Hughes and the 5th and 6th grade bands performed a
lively performance for us. 




















K-4 students from Mrs. Thoreson's crew inter-
viewed Cleo, Jacoby, Auguste and Petra about
PERKS. Then the K-4 students are making
posters for our school.  See pics. 

























There were so many acts of service and compassion. This is
the Rookies and ELL students from Mrs. Malloy's and
our crews, helping people from the Senior Resource Center
put in plants for the Living Wall at the Shorewood Public
Library. Thank you to Ms. Heide for askng us! See pics. She also gave our crews a butterfly house made by LB 6th graders!



















Ms. Nakia, Mrs. Curry and Ms. Shataqua and her
baby visited our crew to talk about how the Nia
Amani Family works and how it provides help
to those who need it. Ms. Nakia and Ms. Shataqua
were so grateful for all of the items that were
donated to them. They also gave wonderful advice
to our crew. A special thank you to Isla for wanting
to do something to help and to Mrs. Marks for
helping to connect them with us. A wonderful
showing of service and compassion! Thank you

Sam, Masha and Geoffrey use a concentric
circle to write what they know about fruits
and vegetables, along with the differences. Then
they watched a few videous before they added
more information. See pics. 

Herny T. and Angela are planting seeds

Victor and J.P. are collecting data from their
seed packet to put on a note catcher to help
them plant their seeds. See pics. 

Geoffrey adds peels into the compost. This
is another great example of service and
compassion. 

Eliza listens to Daphne share about her space
colony blueprints during the 5th grade

Isla, Owen M. Zoah, Cleo and Auguste donated
money to the Puerto Rico Relief Fund and could
wear a hat if they chose. Thank you all for the

Victor and Henry T. are collecting data on play-
ground equipment in connection with our AWIM
form vs. function expedition They will also
collect data on similar equipment at Possibility
Playground. See pics

Thank you to Cassidy and Mrs. Shanks for
watering our garden plot on Saturday and to
Auguste and his family for watering it on Monday.
Hopefully we will see sprouting soon! Jacoby's
family is also helping out with the garden plot
this summer! Thank you all so much!

In math, we have practiced math facts using
games to review for end of the year math
assessments. We also took the MAP math
assessment, End of Year math assessment
and finished our fraction unit. Cassidy and
Xyella are playing a multiplication game.

Orchestra and Band students may practice at lunch recess
for their upcoming band and orchestra recitals if they would
like. Auguste and Petra practice for their recital and play
an improptu duet.  I love when students opt for this as I love
to hear them play.

Masha and J.P. participate in a kindness iniative,
led by our Kindness stewards, about the life cycle

Cleo, Jacoby, August and Petra are our Kind-
ness stewards. They led our crew in a greeting,
reading of The GIving Tree by Shel Silverstein

Henry C. and Finn greet each other in a student

is Service and Compassion.

Mr. Stingl played guitar and sang for us. He
also answered questions and let every crew
member try out his guitar. Here is Owen M.

Day. 



On May 4, EL World Day, all 44 Cross-age Crews delivered
May baskets to Shorewood residents and businesses. Eliza is
in Ms. Braim's Cross-age crew. 



















For Service and Compassion, we joined
Mrs. Thoreson's K-4 Crew to help deliver
their May baskets. Here's Xyella, Owen D,

The SIS Jazz Band under the direction of Mr. Olson played
an entertaining concert for us. 




The SHS Jazz band, led by Mr. C, performed an energetic
concert for us.



































Mr. Hughes demonstrated all of the band
instruments to over 70 third graders.  See pics. 




















Sam and Finn try out the cello in the orchestra
demonstration with Mrs. Nolan. The students
tried out the violin, viola and cello, plus heard
the bass. Wonderful opportunities for our students
to choose an instruments if they would like to.

research and multiple drafts of his illustrations
during his Worm Work expedition Celebration
of Learning in Ms. Braim's crew.  It was amazing!

Geoffrey and Auguste are interviewing each
other and creating a "I bet you didn't know"

Herny C. adds fruit and vegetable peels to
the compost. People are handing our crew
fruit peels at lunch time which we are also

Leo, Levi and Jacoby add bling to their Jettoy
car to change the design but not the form
